Rotten Tomatoes have released their list of the best horror movies released this year. Here are their top five selections…
5. Together

Released in July, Together follows couple Tim and Millie as they embark on a move to the country after Millie takes a new job. Tensions are high and as they explore the area, they get lost in the wilderness, eventually finding themselves in a creepy cave where they spend the night. When they wake up, they find themselves attached to each other, and over the next few days, a nightmare begins for the pair.
Rated 90% by critics and 76% by the audience, everyone notes the amazing chemistry between the lead actor and actress. They note that the film is extremely memorable, and stands out as a fantastic body horror adventure.
4. Good Boy

Good Boy is a unique film as it is entirely from the perspective of a dog, Indy. He finds himself leaving the city with his owner and best friend Todd as they travel to stay at a vacant family home. Something disturbing is going on inside the house though, and Indy has to battle the dark forces trying to drag Todd to the underworld.
Rated 91% by critics while the audience opted for a slightly lower 81%, the latter note that while the film lacks a strong narrative, it pulls you in with the fresh point of view and high-running emotions. Critics say the film is visually striking, and that it is a unique experinece.
3. Companion

Released in January, Companion follows a couple on a weekend getaway with friends to a remote cabin. When things turn grim, a secret is revealed that sends the relaxing retreat into chaos.
Rated 93% by critics and 88% by the audience, Companion is noted as being thrilling, while also mixing in fun comedic elements. A hard feat to achieve for some, but this feature stands out as a well executed horror ride.
2. Weapons

Weapons is being noted by some as the best horror movie of the year, and it certainly stands out as a competitor. When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.
Rated 93% by critics (higher than Companion due to more reviews) and 85% by the audience, Weapons will go down as an elite horror movie. Clocking in at over two hours, time flies as you’re engaged in a perfectly crafted mystery. Broken into chapters, it keeps your engagement throughout and it is an entertaining watch.
1. Sinners

Sinners takes the title of Rotten Tomatoes’ best horror movie of the year. Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
Rated 97% by critics and 96% by the audience, Sinners is an amazing watch from start to finish. The first hour is almost entirely spent on character and world building, which makes you care more when everything starts to go downhill. Not only is the story incredible, but it is a fantastic display visually. Very deserving as the best horror movie of 2025.
