Until Dawn trailer reveals terrifying twist for movie adaptation

The first official trailer for the horror movie Until Dawn has arrived and it seems to be taking a different approach from the video game.

Unlike the video game, which follows the story of eight young adults having to survive a horrific night filled with wendigos and a killer, the movie adaptation is taking the route of Happy Death Day.

The characters will be forced to relive the nightmare over and over, dying each time to a new threat. Eventually, they realise that they only have a limited number of deaths left and that the only way for them to make it out alive is to survive until dawn.

The director, David F. Sandberg, said: “Every night, every time it resets, it’s a new horror genre.

“We get pretty much all of it in here – slasher, supernatural, body horror, found footage, even monsters. To me, who’s been wanting to do a horror movie for forever, it was great to get to do all of it and try subgenres I hadn’t before.”

The game featured a masked killer as one of the main antagonists

It seems that they’re not abandoning the original route though, with the trailer showing glimpses of a masked murderer and a terrifying wendigo. Although, they are bringing brand new threats to the mix, with a creepy clown doll being one highlighted in the trailer.

And unlike Happy Death Day and similar films, the director wanted to make sure that these characters were put through hell. With it being a different antagonist that they have to face each time, it will be impossible for them to figure out a method to the madness.

“In a classical Groundhog Day sense, you have characters who learn from each loop,” Sandberg said. “You can’t do that here, because it changes every time. You just die in different ways”

Until Dawn releases in theatres on April 25.
